Strategic Alignment

Synopsis: This chapter covers the topic of strategic alignment. Many innovation initiatives run into trouble because they are not tightly aligned to the strategic goals of the corporation. We advocate a close alignment of the innovation team to the strategic goals, and the definition of an innovation "charter" - a document which defines the scope, responsibilities, mission and goals of an innovation program and/or team. This charter should be developed by the chief innovation officer or innovation manager and agreed to by senior management, then communicated broadly.
